Ziff Davis Media

Ziff Davis Media Inc. is formed in 2000 by Willis Stein & Partners; and James Dunning (former Ziff Davis CEO, chairman, and president).

In 2001 Ziff Davis Media Inc. reaches an agreement with CNET Networks Inc. and ZDNet to regain the URLs lost in the 2000 sale of Ziff Davis Inc, to Soft Bank. This includes the online content licensing rights to 11 publications, including PC Magazine, CIO Insight and eWEEK.

In 2001 James Dunning left and was replaced by former ABC executive Robert Callahan.

Due to the economic downturn in was forced to restucture in order to avoid filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Currently its competitors include: CNET Networks Inc. and International Data Group.

A privatly-held company, its IPO proposal was announced by Ziff Davis Inc. on December 22 1998. When its stock trades on the NYSE Stock Exchange it will trade under the ticker symbol ZDZ.
