Menlo Park, California

Menlo Park is a city located in San Mateo County, California in the United States of America. It is located at latitude 37°29' North, longitude 122°9' West. Menlo Park has 30,785 inhabitants, according to the 2000 U.S. Census.

Geography

Menlo Park is located at 37°27'15" North, 122°10'43" West (37.454188, -122.178579)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 45.1 km² (17.4 mi²). 26.2 km² (10.1 mi²) of it is land and 18.9 km² (7.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 41.88% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 30,785 people, 12,387 households, and 7,122 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,173.4/km² (3,040.1/mi²). There are 12,714 housing units at an average density of 484.6/km² (1,255.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 72.35% White, 7.03% African American, 0.44% Native American, 7.15% Asian, 1.26% Pacific Islander, 8.56% from other races, and 3.21% from two or more races. 15.60% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 12,387 households out of which 26.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.3% are married couples living together, 8.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.5% are non-families. 32.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.41 and the average family size is 3.12.

In the city the population is spread out with 21.9% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 34.7% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 94.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $84,609, and the median income for a family is $105,550. Males have a median income of $79,766 versus $51,101 for females. The per capita income for the city is $53,341. 6.9% of the population and 4.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 8.8% are under the age of 18 and 7.3% are 65 or older.
