Count von Count

Count von Count (b. October 9, 1,832,652 years ago), often known as simply "The Count" is one of the muppet characters on Sesame Street, performed by Jerry Nelson.

The Count's main purpose is educating children on simple mathematics concepts, most notably counting. The Count has an obsessive love of counting (arithomania), and will count anything and everything, regardless of size, amount, or how much annoyance he is causing the other muppets. According to his theme song, The Song of the Count: "When I'm alone, I count myself. One count!" Following a count, the Count always laughs maniacally, "Ha Ha Ha!" and thunder roars overhead. When he sings, the background music resembles gypsy music, no matter what the song.

The Count lives in a castle which he shares with many bats, sometimes he counts them. He bears a noticeable resemblance to Bela Lugosi as Count Dracula, complete with pointed eye-teeth; but it would appear that he is different from other vampires. For example, vampires wither in direct sunlight; the Count does not, and in fact, enjoys being outside.

The Count is very occasionally seen to have a girlfriend, Countess Dahling Von Dahling.

His brother and mother have made appearance on the show. He has a cat, Fatatatita, as well as a family of pet bats, Batty Bat, Grisha, Misha, Sasha, and Tattiana.

The Song of the Count

You know that I am called the Count.
Because I reeeeally love to count.
Sometimes I sit and count all day.
But oh!
Sometimes I get carried away!

I count slowly. Slowly. Slowly, getting faster.
Once I started counting, it's very hard to stop.
Faster, faster, it is so exciting.
I can count forever, count until I drop!
HAHA!
One two three four!
Ayayayaya yayayaya!
Once I started counting, it's very hard to stop.
Hey!
One two three four!
Ayayayaya yayayaya!
Once I started counting, it's very hard to stop.

I count the spiders in the hall.
I count the cobwebs on the wall.
I count the books upon the shelf.
When I'm alone......
I count..
myself.
