In Greek Mythology, an Oceanid was a nymph who was the daughter of Oceanus; i. e., nymph presiding over the ocean.
More broadly, the Oceanids, in Greek and Romanmythology, were the three thousand sons and daughters of Oceanus and Tethys. Each one was the patron of a particular spring, river, lake or pond. Each body of water had an Oceanid assigned to it.
