PaddlingPaddling can refer to the action of moving a paddle, and is often synonymous with canoeing or kayaking or rafting.
Paddling is also a recreational activity, much favoured by young children, which effectively constitutes wading barefoot in shallow water. This activity may be carried out at the seaside or in purpose-built "paddling pools".
In another use of the term it refers to the beating of a person's buttocks with a paddle, a controversial method of corporal punishment similar to spanking. See also paddle.
