Baruch

In the Old Testament, at least three persons are called Baruch (ברוך "Blessed", Tiberian Hebrew BārĂ»ḵ, Standard Hebrew Baruḫ).

Table of contents
1 Baruch son of Zabbai
2 Baruch son of Col-Hozeh
3 Baruch son of Neriah

Baruch son of Zabbai

In the Book of Nehemiah 3:20 (DRV) Baruch son of Zabbai is listed as helping Nehemiah to repair the walls of Jerusalem. Later (Neh 10:6) someone called Baruch seals the covenant with Nehemiah. These two may be the same person.

Baruch son of Col-Hozeh

In Nehemiah 11:15 Baruch son of Col-Hozeh is listed as a returned captive, from the Tribe of Judah.

Baruch son of Neriah

Baruch son of Neriah was the scribe of the prophet Jeremiah. See Jer 32:12-16, 36:1-32.

He acted in behalf of Jeremiah when Jeremiah was imprisoned (Jer 36:5, 8)

The deuterocanonical Book of Baruch (see also Apocrypha) contains a work written by Baruch, the prophet, in Babylon, in the fifth year after the destruction of Jerusalem by the Chaldeans.

The Apocalypse of Baruch is a separate work from the Book of Baruch, also written by Baruch.

He is said to have gone with Jeremiah to Egypt.

Legend says that he died in Spain.
