Pikmin

The first Pikmin game was released December 3, 2001 in North America and June 15, 2002 in Europe.

In Pikmin, you play as Captain Olimar, the spaceman from the planet Hocotate. The story starts when Olimar is taking a vacation in outer space. However, during his flight, a meteorite hits his spaceship, and it crashes on a unknown planet. Parts of the spaceship fell off as it plummeted to the ground.

As he regained consciousness, Olimar found out that the planet's atmosphere contained oxygen, which is poisonous to the people from Hocotate, and could only stay on the planet for 30 days. You have to play as Olimar and collect the 30 parts of the spaceship.

The Pikmin

During his journey, Olimar finds creatures called Pikmin, who live in a spaceship called Onions. Pikmin are divided into three colors:

Olimar uses the Pikmin to defeat enemies, carry objects such as parts for the spaceship or pellets, demolishing walls, pushing large boxes, and constructing various objects to get around easier.

You can create more Pikmin by taking enemies back to the onion or finding pellets with a number on them. The pellets have a red, blue, or yellow color on them. Make the Pikmin carry the pellet to the Onion, and more Pikmin will be created. If you bring a pellet to the Onion of the same color, more Pikmin than normal will be created.

The number of the Pikmin on the field cannot exceed 100.

Pikmin 2

Pikmin 2 is the sequel to the original Pikmin. It is currently released in Japan. The releases date for North America and Europe are currently August 30, 2004 (NA) and November 9, 2004 (EU).

In Pikmin 2, you play as Olimar and his assistant, who is named Louie. This time, you're looking for various treasures to bring back to Hocotate.

The Pikmin

The three Pikmin introduced in Pikmin 1 return, along with two new Pikmin. These Pikmin, unlike the others, do not have an onion and sleep on your ship. They are created when you throw any color Pikmin into certain flowers, called Candypop Buds:

Some of the original Pikmin have new abilities:

  • Yellow Pikmin are resistant to electricity, and they cannot pick up bomb rocks anymore (since they have been removed).

There is also a type of Bulborb, called a "Bulbmin", that acts like a Pikmin. To get them, you have to defeat the master Bulborb and they will follow you. They are only found in caves and will not come out of the cave:

  • Bulbmin come in groups of 10 after defeating the master Bulborb. They are immune to water, fire, poison, and electricity.

Levels

Unlike the original Pikmin game, there are also cave areas. There are 4 main areas (Vally of Repose, Forest of Awakening, The Perplexing Spring, and the Land of Promise) and fourteen caves spread between each level.
